Bronze medal from the autonomous formula competition in New York

A team of students from CTU in Prague led by prof. Zdeněk Hanzálek from the Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics won the 3rd place in the Formula F1 / 10 Autonomous Formula Competition at Columbia University in New York. The competition took place on 14 October 2019. Overall 11 teams from all over the world qualified for the competition.

This is the 5th race of the F1 / 10 Autonomous Racing Competition, last year the team of the Industrial Informatics Department of the Czech Institute of Computer Science, Robotics and Cybernetics of CTU ranked 1st in the competition in Porto, Portugal and 3rd in Turin, Italy. At the competition at Columbia University, the team was represented by David Zahrádka and Jan Vojnar, students of Cybernetics and Robotics study field at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague.

Controlling of self-driven formula models in decimal size is based on algorithms and their proper programming is more important to winning the competition than a car construction design that is pre-approved for all teams.

The knowledge gained in the development of autonomous formulas is also used in research projects for autonomous control realized by the CIIRC CTU in cooperation with car manufacturers.
