Anotation:

Introduction to Business Process Management (BPM), with emphasis on the first part of its life cycle. The purpose of this course is to teach students how to "grab" a real problem, describe it by a process map in the specific tool and simulate its behavior. It extends the technological point of view on the issues of analytical, business and management approach. Theoretical lectures are suitably combined with the real case studies presentations and practical workshops for better theory understanding. This the reason why in some weeks we do not differentiate lectures from seminars. During these weeks the study is joint to the blocks and students are required to attend to the whole block. Study targets:

Graduates will understand how to define a process, its analysis and modeling, will know the standard notation used to describe process and will know how to model and simulate created models by using IT tools. They also get an idea about the practical implementation and use of service-oriented architecture in relation to process management.In case of successful completion of the course graduates receive an IBM internationally recognized academic certificate.

Course outlines:

1. Introduction to the subject, process management introduction and motivation, basic concepts of BPM.
2. Importance and benefits of BPM, motivation case studies, basic summary of the BPM lifecycle
3. Process re-engineering and optimization.
4. How to implement BPM in practice, what to do and prepare before starting the BPM implementation (Case Study).
5. Process modeling tools, commercial versus open source solutions, types of user needs, tools focus.
6. Introduction to BPMN, BPMN and UML comparision, BPM lifecycle.
7. BPM lifecycle I.
8. BPM lifecycle II.
9. Further processes modeling and simulation, Business Mashups.
10. Advanced technologies and tools for implementing BPM, BPEL, Business Rules.
11. Integration of business processes through SOA, ESB process integration tools, open source vs. commercial solutions.
12. BPM and experience of its usage in practice (Case Study).
13. Process management in relation to industry standards and regulatory compliance - ISO, ITIL, COBIT, HIPAA, SOX
14. Reserve.

Exercises outline:

1. Introduction to the exercises, an introduction to BPM and simulator Innov8 version I.
2. Practical simulation in Innov8 version I, evaluation, preparation of evaluation reports.
3. Optimization of process model in Innov8 version II, Introduction to online simulator Innov8, homework assignment.
4. Evaluation of homeworks, beginning of the 1st student task.
5. Completion of the 1st student task, simulation, opportunities for models optimization.
6. Start working on the 2nd student task.
7. Completion of the 2nd student task, models evaluation, simulation, optimization. 8.Entering semester projects, analysis of the projects content and their goals.
9. Working on the semester projects, creation of models.

Requirements:

Pro úspěšné absolvování předmětu nejsou vyžadovány žádné speciální předchozí odborné znalosti. Je vyžadována schopnost analytického myšlení, výhodou je alespoň základní znalost programování (standard ČVUT FEL nebo FIT). Vzhledem k tomu, že přednášky a cvičení jsou provázané a často spojené do výukových bloků, je vhodné, aby se studenti účastnili celého výukového bloku (přednáška + cvičení). Pokud se nemůže student plnohodnotně účastnit celého bloku, musí o této skutečnosti informovat předem vyučujícího a dohodnout způsob a podmínky absolvování předmětu.
